Job Description

***This position has a flexible location and can be based in: Miami, FL, Orlando, FL, Ft. Lauderdale, FL and/or Atlanta, GA***

The Regional Finance Director (RFD) will direct and support property financial leaders in achieving high levels of performance and value creation through activities of the Operations Finance Group. The Regional Finance Director will provide tactical support to the Vice President of Operations Finance and serve as a strong Finance Business Partner to the AVP of Operations and the regional support team.

What will I be doing?

The Regional Finance Director will proactively monitor the progress of hotels in achieving the organization's stated goals as well as proactive owner relations. The Regional Finance Director will also plan, organize and direct corrective actions to be taken as a result of the financial leadership benchmarking and score carding.

Other key priorities are listed below:

  • Analyze Operations Finance programs and measure against corporate benchmarks as well as industry standards
  • Devise, communicate and execute strategies and directions for the Operations Finance Group, evaluating efforts to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the property level organization
  • Implement plans for identified business process opportunities for property level finance and direct accordingly
  • Develop an execution plan to implement long term goals for the Operations Finance department that will become the basis for short term goals and annual operational planning
  • Develop the appropriate objectives for the business and direct the methodologies by which those objectives are going to be accomplished
  • Establish procedures and processes in relation to Operations Finance
  • Consolidate monthly property financial leadership scorecard for the Operations Finance group and properties; make corrections where necessary
  • Interact with Senior Management of Hotel Operations as well as property General Managers and Directors of Finance, with respect to the performance of property level Operations Finance and assist with the interpretation of financial and benchmarking data
  • Prepare high level presentations and summaries for use by Senior Management and communicated to Owners
  • Interact with Senior Vice Presidents, Area Vice Presidents and regional teams regarding financial reporting and accountability
  • Implement the direction given by executive management to ensure the overall strategic direction of the property finance team is consistent with and supported by Human Resources, Legal and Finance
  • Identify and oversee the resources and activities of the Operations Finance department and confer as appropriate with key stakeholders and departments, so objectives are accomplished
  • Direct the grouping of and assignment of tasks, while ensuring optimal allocation of resources
  • Oversee and evaluate business processes to maximize efficiency and effectiveness within the property finance department
  • Direct the development and administration of tactical requirements at the hotel level
  • Oversee and provide direction and directives to the Directors of Finance in the hotels, by establishing work priorities and in achieving management objectives as it relates to the control environment and finance business processes
  • Ensure proactive communications to owners relative to budget, forecast and actuals
  • Execute the directives of the organization's mission, goals and objectives and demonstrate them through ongoing and direct motivation, communication, group dynamics and leadership
  • Provide direct support to Area Finance responsibilities as described previously
  • Manage effective partnerships across the organization, to include Operations, Financial Planning and Analysis, Accounting, Brand, HR, and other departments as required
  • Ensure appropriate talent is identified in compliance with department staffing plan
  • Develop current property level talent to achieve greater strategic goals and performance
  • Determine staffing needs and oversee the recruiting, selecting, hiring, training and developing of property level finance departmental managers
  • Work with direct reports on goals to assist in accomplishing property department initiatives, and their own career objectives
  • Ensure compliance with corporate reporting directives, methodologies, and deadlines
  • Monitor hotel compliance with financial reporting calendar
  • Identify negative trends and create solutions with senior management
  • Recommend corrective action and direct existing staff in implementing action plans
  • Implement and maintain Operations Finance systems
  • Translate organizational goals and objectives into performance standards for division, departments and individual positions
  • Assess actual performance against standards to determine whether the department is on target to reach its goals and take corrective actions as necessary
  • Ensure the business plan and goals are being followed and achieved, providing feedback or revising the plan, if needed
  • Establish and enforce policies and procedures that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the Company
  • Monitor the return on invested capital and time resources
  • Work within established departmental budget
  • Review and make appropriate adjustments in activities and expenses throughout the fiscal year to ensure optimal financial results
  • Ensure timely customer satisfaction (external and internal) on inquiries and requests
  • Keep up to date on all financial systems
  • Work with Corporate Finance in coordinating accounting changes and variances within the various platforms
  • Attend Corporate and Operations Finance meetings as required
  • Assist in special projects as required
  • Report actions taken or procedural changes necessary to prevent recurrence
  • Assist corporate finance, Directors of Finance, Hotel Controllers, and central office finance with financial issues and irregularities; recommend and help implement appropriate corrective actions
  • Control environment support including balance sheet reviews and peer review process
  • Quarterly Certification Roll-up
Job Requirements

What are we looking for?

To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess the following minimum qualifications and experience:

  • BA/BS Bachelor's Degree
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in Financial Operations roles
  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience developing and leading a team of four (4) or more individuals
  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience presenting key findings and key analysis to executive leadership
  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience working with financial systems
  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience analyzing and interpreting financial data including variance analysis, ratio analysis, margin analysis and key performance indicators
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access Database
  • Ability to travel as required (up to 70%)

It would be advantageous in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions:

  • MA/MS Master's Degree in Business Administration or related degree
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of Hospitality industry experience, with a mix of experience from Operations Finance, Business Intelligence and Operations Support roles
  • A minimum of two (2) years of Director level experience
  • In-depth knowledge of Hyperion, Essbase, and PeopleSoft
  • Business fluency in English and at least one other language
  • International experience
