How has Hilton supported your career growth and development?

“The  Waldorf Astoria New York supported me when I was raising my 3 children and 3 grandchildren. They understood that working at night (the night audit role) was the best option at the time because I needed to be home during the daytime to take care of my children. When I switched to the daytime and became an Accounts Receivable Clerk, my leaders and I had an open conversation about whether it was a good time to move to the morning shift. Later, when the Waldorf closed (for a multi-year renovation), I jumped on an opportunity to stay with the company by moving to a role at the New York Hilton Midtown!

Another way they have supported my development is through training and courses. Hilton really cares about investing in their Team Members’ development by offering these courses. I have taken classes to learn all the ‘ins and outs’ of auditing and financing, which have really helped me be more efficient at my job.”
What excites you most about your role and the work you do, and how do you create memorable experiences for guests?

“My role includes processing the billing information for groups that come in-house. I am a people person who loves to exceed guest expectations by being as clear and detailed as humanly possible. I hold a PhD in psychology and value client happiness and the event experience. I believe client grievances can be prevented if you make an effort to reassure them you are readily available for their requests/needs. Being friendly, forming business relationships, and taking extra steps to communicate with all involved in the billing go a long way in creating meaningful experiences!”

What benefits or programs make Hilton the #1 World’s Best Workplace for you?

“As mentioned, Hilton has great training workshops and leadership courses. And I love the Go Hilton travel program! I especially love that if you have over 20 years at Hilton you receive the Go Hilton benefit for life. It really shows that Hilton cares about you and you are family!”

What aspects of Hilton’s culture have kept you at the company?

“The year-round recognition and appreciation at Hilton have made me feel great about all my hard work at both hotels.  I have been nominated for (and won many times!) the hotel’s Hero and Pride Awards. Additionally, the beautiful holiday parties for Team Members at the Hilton New York Midtown and Waldorf New York are always fun and make me feel like Hilton appreciates both Team Members and our families.”

What advice do you have for others considering a career at Hilton?

“My biggest advice is to be a team player. We all work for Hilton, and no matter the department, it is critical to understand this to be successful. In order to create great guest experiences, we have to combine all our strengths, and it is important to remember and understand that it is not just about the numbers. Recognition and sympathy go a long way!”
