What makes Hilton the #1 World’s Best Workplace? For Team Members like Webert, Maintenance Leader, it is having the trust and support to bring an idea forward – and the opportunity to see where it can lead.

At Hilton São Paulo Morumbi, Webert saw a way to get more Team Members involved in the hotel’s bottle cap collection, which supports a local nonprofit caring for abandoned animals. Using materials already available at the hotel, he designed and built a nearly one-meter-tall dispenser that helped bring greater attention to the campaign. Today, the hotel collects an average of around 40 kg of bottle caps each month.

Keep reading to learn more about the inspiration behind the dispenser, the support Webert received along the way, and what the experience has meant for his career at Hilton.

What inspired you to create the bottle cap dispenser?

“Before the new dispenser was created, there was already a bottle cap collection point on site. However, it was small and simple, with very little visibility, which made it difficult to promote the campaign's purpose or spark greater interest and curiosity among Team Members. I decided to explore alternatives to make the initiative more attractive, increase engagement, and strengthen the visibility of the hotel's sustainability initiatives.

One of my inspirations came from doll packaging, which often includes a transparent section that allows people to see the contents inside. My initial idea was to create an experience similar to a game, where the bottle caps would travel through an interactive pipe before reaching the collection compartment. Based on that concept, I designed a layout that would attract more attention.”

What support did you receive from your leaders?

“From the beginning, I received full support from my leaders. They trusted my ability to develop the idea and provided suggestions, guidance, and encouragement throughout the entire process. Knowing that my ideas were welcomed and supported reinforced my sense of belonging and demonstrated how Hilton believes in empowering people to make a difference.”

What has it been like seeing the impact of the dispenser today?

“It has been incredibly rewarding to see our team’s engagement with this initiative. In a short time, we noticed an increase in both donations and awareness of the campaign. Today, several departments maintain boxes and containers to collect bottle caps and regularly bring them to the dispenser. The project has become part of our Team Members' daily routine and continues to inspire participation.”

How has this experience shaped your career at Hilton?

“Leading this project taught me that small internal actions can create a very positive impact on society. I am also very grateful that this initiative gave me the opportunity to showcase the Engineering team's creativity, teamwork, and dedication.

Since creating the dispenser, I have received internal recognition, which has brought greater visibility to my work. This has allowed me to participate in additional initiatives and lead improvement and innovation projects across the property. Most recently, I was promoted to Maintenance Leader.”

From your perspective, what makes Hilton the #1 World’s Best Workplace?

“Hilton is the best place to work because it encourages people to turn ideas that come from the heart into meaningful actions that help others and even contribute to animal welfare. While some ideas can be challenging to implement, we always find support, guidance, and encouragement to overcome obstacles and achieve positive results.”
