Job Summary

A Director of Leisure and Entertainment Sales researches, develops and solicits new FIT and Group Tour business while maintaining relationships with current accounts. Travels outside of the office to meet with customers and prospective customers to develop business, make proposals, negotiate contracts, maintain contacts, conduct site inspections and close deals. Consistently meets with and entertains customers, conducts property tours, participates in tradeshows and industry and community events to promote facilities and services. Interviews, trains, supervises, counsels, schedules and evaluates staff.

Organizational Structure

This position of Director of Leisure and Entertainment Sales reports to the Director of Sales and Marketing.

What will I be doing?

Essential functions:
  • Represent hotel by soliciting, responding to and negotiating with persons requiring accommodations
  • Represent hotel in significant interactions dealing with customers and commission agreements with third party agencies.
  • Establish and maintain effective employee working relations both within the department and with other departments
  • Initiate the preparation of proposals and/or contracts to advise prospective customers primarily of the hotel guest rooms, but also meeting space and/or banquet date, space and rate availability. Develop and quote prices for same.
  • Engage in outside sales activities to discuss business opportunities and entertain customers in local and assigned markets (percentage of travel dependent on specific market).
  • Direct site visits and programs for respective accounts and participates in tradeshows, industry and customer events.
  • Attend sales departmental meeting and other scheduled meetings to support business operations, e.g. tentative review, group pick-up, business review.
  • Manage, train and evaluate the support staff, including interns.  Coach and council the supporting team members.
  • Conduct site inspections with potential customers, visiting guest rooms, meeting space and banquet facilities, as well as other hotel facilities.
  • Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by Hilton from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. 
  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.
  • Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with Hilton rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities.
Supportive Functions:

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the particular requirements of the company.

  • Provide guidance to sales managers and support staff
  • Provide training for administrative support.



  • Hospitality Management experience required
  • Candidates must have a track record of success and a minimum of 5 years in the hotel industry
  • Current or recent business and market experience directing sales for both group and leisure segment
  • Appropriate, professional appearance and presentation
  • Ability to balance workload that involves following up with past third-party clients & end-user group contacts, day-to-day obligations and growing future business
  • Extremely strong written, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Strong computer knowledge, with technical ability and/or aptitude to fully use Delphi and Springer-Miller property management systems.
  • Able to demonstrate flexibility to the customer and nimble at successfully negotiating business in person, and over the phone
  • Motivated personality who can confirm definite leisure business for the hotel without being pushy
  • Team player who fosters good work relationships with a positive mental attitude
  • Very detail-oriented and desire to proactively assist team members and guests who need help at anytime
  • Flexibility to accommodate administrative demands of a Pre-opening environment
  • Must be able to meet or exceed Leisure Sales goals.


  • Previous experience working in for a luxury hotel brand preferred
  • Capability to use Excel to generate and interpret data reports on business volume from sales territory and individual sales progress reports
  • Capability to use PowerPoint beyond required presentation skills and proactively create compelling up to date presentations for the sales team and other hotel departments to use in operations
