Get to Know Stephane
“My Hilton journey started twenty years ago in Miami at the Hilton Fontainebleau while studying at Florida International University. I had always wanted to be an airline pilot but was diagnosed with an eye issue early on and had to pivot. I wanted a career that combined the things I enjoyed, like traveling, learning from other cultures, speaking different languages, and helping people – hospitality was the obvious choice.
From Miami, I was recruited for Hilton’s Elevator Program, which prepares you for hotel management. This program sent me to Montreal and Buenos Aires (where I got my first CALA region [Caribbean & Latin America] experience). I then went over the Atlantic to spend five years in London before moving to Madrid as Director of Operations. Seeking resort experience, I found an opportunity in Mauritius before a return to CALA in Mexico City. After that, I moved as General Manager to Curacao, Lima, and my current position in Reforma. ”

As a General Manager, how do you create an inclusive team where people feel welcome to voice their ideas and show up authentically?
“The first step is to appoint the right/best person in each position. Second, for people to show up authentically, you must build trust. Building trust can take a long time, but losing it is immediate. Third, you must always be genuine and back up your words with actions. For example, one of the first things I tell my new hires on day one is that I did not bring them on board to say yes to everything – if they have an idea or an opinion, I want them to voice it as it will make us stronger.”
How has Hilton helped you thrive in your career?
“I was lucky to have been given the right opportunities at the right moments. Hilton has helped me prepare for the ‘next role’ throughout my career with leadership training, Hilton university courses, and mentoring. I am and have been extremely fortunate to work alongside great leaders who trusted and pushed me to do more.”
What has been the most significant learning in your career so far?
“To enjoy every day and do something that you love always. The opportunities in hospitality are plenty. I have also learned that passion is a critical ingredient in leadership, and if you do not enjoy what you do, you will not be able to inspire and motivate your team.”

What is the most unique part of your day working at Hilton?
“I truly believe that I have the best job in the world. Every day is different, and I get to spend much time with my team, get to know guests and clients, live extraordinary experiences, and have a meaningful impact on the community. It is a constant learning and humbling experience.”
What is the best advice you have ever received?
“My dad always told me to “be who I am.” This advice has helped me throughout my journey as I got more responsibilities.”
