Unleashing Potential: Women’s Team Member Resource Group Leader Shares Career Journey and Advice

When you work at Hilton, it is more than just a job. It is a place to find community, build genuine connections, and make an impact on our culture and business. Our Team Member Resource Groups (TMRGs) enable us to do that and more.

Marsha, Senior Director, Distribution Services, began her Hilton journey as a Staff Auditor. A valuable member of #TeamHilton for the last 31 years, she is now one of three leaders of the Women’s Team Member Resource Group (TMRG) in the U.S., where she has played a pivotal role in advocating for women’s interests within the organization and her community. In this blog, we dive into her career journey, experience as a Women’s TMRG leader, and advice for others looking to grow with Hilton.

How did you become a Women’s TMRG leader, and what do you love most about the role?

“I was nominated to be one of three leaders in the US. My favorite part of my role is the opportunity to elevate interests important to women within our organization. Advocating in this space has led to new benefit offerings for women related to physical and mental health and caregiving resources.”

In your experience, what are the benefits of joining the TMRGs at Hilton?

“The TMRGs offer an opportunity to connect with Team Members outside of your department and expand your network. For the Women’s TMRG, it is a chance to explore the many other commonalities between you and other Team Members beyond gender. The TMRGs also provide a safe space to discuss your challenges and concerns with someone who may be facing the same obstacle or who made it to the other side of it.”

How has Hilton supported you in giving back to your community?

“Hilton encourages us as Team Members to volunteer within the communities we work in and travel to. For example, during a meeting in Los Cabos, I had the opportunity to take part in a sea turtle hatchling release – it was so amazing. I have also volunteered with local agencies that provide food boxes to the food insecure and, through Hilton, partnered with my local  Dress for Success branch, which offers employment resources to help women achieve economic independence."

How does Hilton uplift women in the workplace?

“Hilton has been named the  #1 Best Place to Work for Women in the US for five years in a row. Senior Leadership has shaped a culture of acceptance and inclusion from a standpoint of equity and, recognizing that Team Member needs are different, they work continuously to meet those needs within the organization and the communities we serve. This recognition demonstrates that, as a woman, you can grow your career here while enabling Hilton to continue attracting talented women to the organization.”

What is a recent personal or professional accomplishment of which you are proud?

“I received the Circle of Excellence award in 2016. It was an honor to receive this prestigious award.”

What is your advice for others looking to grow their careers at Hilton?

“Have a clear elevator pitch that speaks to what you deliver, and study it until it becomes second nature to recite it. Advocate for yourself, and make sure your circle includes key people like a mentor and a sponsor to advocate for you, too.”

The Women’s TMRG is one of nine groups working to help make Hilton the best place to work for all, but that is not the only benefit of joining these groups.  The TMRGs also create space to connect with other Team Members across the globe, provide opportunities to engage with diverse local communities, and offer even more access to professional development - all while helping to drive change for our business.  Visit our career website to explore our other TMRGs, and if you are a current Team Member, visit the Lobby to join a TMRG today.
