On the Go: Hilton Recruiter and Military Spouse Jamie Builds a Career That Moves With Her

At Hilton, we are proud to support those who serve—and those who support them.

Jamie, a recruiter at Hilton and military spouse, understands firsthand the impact of this support. Her journey, shaped by her family’s service, highlights how essential workplace flexibility and support are for military spouses striving to build meaningful, long-term careers. In honor of Veterans and Military Families Month, Jamie shares how Hilton’s culture and community have empowered her to continue her career—no matter where the Navy takes her family.

Get to Know Jamie

“I started my career in hospitality straight out of college at the Front Desk. I knew I wanted to get into Events, and I found a position as an admin and, later, manager in the Events Department. During that time, my boyfriend (now husband) joined the Navy, and we married. This put a wrench in my career goals because I knew we would be moving around, and ultimately, his career and the Navy would always come first. At the time of our first move, I was able to obtain a position that was still in hospitality and remote – the biggest factor for me. We have since lived in Florida, Virginia, and now Chicago – we are moving again within the next year. It is huge having a position that allows me to continue my career path while on the go!”

What benefits, policies, or leaders at Hilton have supported you as a military spouse?

“Generous PTO to start, but there are so many! In my job as a recruiter, I have had the flexibility to work from wherever my husband has been transferred. I am also part of a Team Member Resource Group (TMRG) that brings together a group of people with a military connection – those with a military background themselves, current or past spouses, etc. It is great to connect, share resources, and receive support from colleagues with similar experiences.”

As a recruiter, what challenges have you observed that military spouses face in the job market?

“A challenge most military spouses will encounter is their job tenure. Unless working remotely, we cannot stay at a job for a very long time because we move every two to three years. From a resume perspective, it can appear as though you are job hopping. I have seen resumes with a statement indicating they are a military spouse, which is helpful as a recruiter.”

From your perspective, what initiatives or strategies are you most proud of at Hilton?

“Hilton started an amazing initiative years ago that focuses on creating career opportunities for the U.S. Military and their family members. Hilton has also partnered with organizations such as Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) and Hiring our Heroes to achieve their goal of hiring more people from this community.”

What advice would you give military spouses interested in joining Team Hilton?

“Look for opportunities that leverage remote work options or positions with transferability. Make sure to highlight your transferable skills on your resume and showcase your unique story in the interview process!”
