Celebrating Intergenerational Inclusivity at Hilton

At Hilton, generational inclusivity is not just embraced; it is the key to our success.

Did you know there are five distinct generations working side-by-side at Hilton to make the stay for guests? In honor of Global Intergenerational Week, we have partnered with our Generations Team Member Resource Group (GTMRG) to celebrate the vibrant tapestry of #TeamHilton. We know our culture and business thrive on the rich perspectives, wisdom, and ideas each generation brings – and our Team Members do, too! Keep reading as GTMRG members worldwide share their perspectives on the power of intergenerational relationships at work.

"A multi-generational workforce is what drives a truly high-performing team. The mix of perspectives wherein those who have been in the business a while and bring plenty of work/life experience to the team working alongside interns or recent college graduates who bring a level of forward-thinking that challenges us to think differently or through a new lens. I have a hugely inclusive team, and I genuinely feel we are better for it. We are more aligned and connected with a varied perspective on our business."

James Jarman

Senior Manager, Guest Experience Programs Support

"It is great to be a part of an inclusive organization with a lot of experience across our corporate offices and hotels. I have always enjoyed working with multi-generational teams that respect each other because there is a lot you can learn and a lot you can teach. It can be challenging at times because everyone may have different goals, so it is important to get to know others before you assume their motivation and passions. My best practice is simple but has served me well: be genuinely interested. I have learned more in casual conversations over lunch and coffee about our business and how things evolve and improve by simply sharing stories and brainstorming."

"Working with a multi-generational team gives a broad cross-section of knowledge and perspective. The age diversity in the hotel drives a culture of learning and mentoring. Younger Team Members can contribute fresh ideas while older ones provide historical data and additional problem-solving skills.”

Helen Statham, Gen X

Training Manager at  Hilton St. George's Park

"As a Learning & Development (L&D) professional, I collaborate with multi-generational teams and enjoy doing so, as it is fascinating to hear people's perspectives on learning at any age. Everyone learns differently, so it is essential to ensure that I adapt to learning needs and that my delivery is inclusive across generations. It is all about ensuring we create a culture of support and education.

I am fifty-three and still learning. Age does not matter, and that is what I really love about Hilton. We are all lifelong learners. My top tips would be to embrace the challenges, reflect on your experiences, and never stop learning from each other."

"I enjoy that we have five generations working together daily at Hilton. We always respect each other, so much so that I am not sure we even notice we are from different generations - at work, we are just colleagues and one family."

Toby Woodall, Millennial

Director, Openings & Transitions, Europe

"Hilton fosters a great working environment for collaborative and multi-generational working. In the early days of my career as an intern, I collaborated with colleagues from two to three different generations daily. My team never considered me to be "just" an intern. Hilton has low Hierarchical and generational barriers, which has created unique growth opportunities in meetings, conferences, and other spaces."
