Meet David

“My career has been a continuous learning experience. While in college studying Political Science, I was also a line cook at a hotel to help cover school costs. The excitement, the team culture, and the feeling of accomplishment of working in a kitchen gave me something I had never experienced and loved. One night, after a hectic dinner service, my Executive Chef shared that hotels and kitchens can be a great place to grow a career.
Upon this realization, I shifted my academic curriculum and career aspirations to hospitality by working as a front desk associate in a hotel in Washington, DC. Something I love about hospitality is that our leaders come from all places. My career started while still in college, but I was studying for my degree through night and weekend classes. I earned my college degree during my first General Manager assignment, almost 15 years after graduating high school. Let me walk you through my lessons and experiences in each position, which helped me grow and evolve as a leader.”
Director of Front Office, Embassy Suites Georgetown
"Mistakes are some of the best learning opportunities. As the Director of the Front Office at the Embassy Suites Georgetown, I have learned to own my results, lead by example, and listen to the people around me. Being involved in the community and vocal with my team was key to fostering collaboration and success, particularly early on in my career."

Manager, Hilton Garden Inn U.S. Capitol
"In this role, I learned about the value of recruitment for the property. It requires creativity, and training should be simple yet effective. Developing realistic Standard Operating Procedures, understanding Human Resources, and knowing accounting controls have been essential in my operational toolkit."

General Manager, Hilton Garden Inn Greenbelt
"‘A strong culture drives results’: this is something I have seen firsthand at the Hilton Garden Inn Greenbelt. Holding myself and others accountable, building strong relationships with ownership, surrounding myself with the best people, and leveraging my network were invaluable lessons at this property."
General Manager, Hilton Garden Inn Old Town Alexandria
"Effective communication with stakeholders is critical, especially at a high level. I have learned the nuances of managing Food & Beverage, understanding the guest journey from start to finish, and the importance of cross-training teams. Winning the weekend business is always a priority!"

General Manager, Embassy Suites Crystal City
"Operating efficiencies benefit both the guest experience and the bottom line. Understanding labor unions and contracts was crucial, as was embracing the perspective of following a successful predecessor. Managing renovations taught me to stay on top of project managers and understand the building inside and out."

General Manager, Embassy Suites DC Convention Center
"Working in a diverse environment has been a privilege—I've even learned another language along the way. Getting involved in sales, revenue management, and marketing early in my career shaped my understanding of the bigger picture. Simplicity in operations and prioritizing Team Member culture have always been my guiding principles.”
These professional experiences have exposed me to great people who have inspired me in many ways. Being willing to search for and accept feedback and learning from my experiences has helped me develop five objectives that I now use as a basis for my career and the heart of the culture I strive to deliver.
